The doctor treated me poorly during my appointment. She disregarded anything I tried to contribute to the conversation and made it seem like my thoughts or concerns didn't matter because I don't have a medical degree. She even told me that she would not remove my thyroid no matter what my concerns were, even though I never mentioned wanting it removed. She dismissed me and gave me her explanation for why I was having problems without even examining me yet. She based her opinion on a thyroid ultrasound that another doctor had performed which showed that my thyroid was within the normal range. She gave me some options to try for my problem, but when I tried to give her more information, she interrupted me and went back to her diagnosis, still without examining me at this point. When I brought up another issue I was having that her explanations didn't cover, she told me "maybe you talk too much". I felt like I shouldn't have advocated for myself or asked any questions about my condition because of her response. Later, the results of my blood work came in and two of the tests were extremely high, indicating that my nodules on my thyroid could potentially be cancerous. She left a note on one of the results, claiming that it was fine because it was "only high due to the nodules". I had to reach out to her and ask if her note covered both tests being high or just the one. Her response was that "they are both normal". This made me worry and lose faith in her diagnosis, so I will be seeking a second opinion from someone outside of St. Lukes. My GP has referred me to two different specialists, but they weren't helpful. The first one suggested that I starve myself for a week, while the second one told me that I talk too much. It's disheartening that St. Lukes thinks all my problems are because I am overweight and talk too much. I appreciate the survey they sent me, as it allowed me to share my experience and concerns about the doctor.
