"In March of 2012, I was life-flighted to UTMB Galveston after I was hit by a car at about 50 mph while riding my motorcycle. I stayed at UTMB for three weeks and underwent four surgeries on my right leg. During this time, my “repaired” leg was closed in the elevator on three separate occasions. My leg was dropped twice and after all was said and done with UTMB, all the hardware in my leg had collapsed leaving me in excruciating (like electrified barbwire) pain. I had the BEST nurses on earth, especially Russell. I have a REAL problem with some of the doctors and UTMB's policies and procedures! The next month while traveling from Highlands, TX to Dickinson, TX (we had to rent special vehicles to transport me at a great cost to my family) for my first follow-up with Ms. Nikoletta Maria Carayannopoulos, my orthopedic surgeon. We were having difficulty finding her office location since it was different than that of UTMB Galveston. We called to let them know of our situation and were told if we were more than fifteen minutes late (we had already been on the road for about an hour, never thinking it would take as long as it did!) they would not see us!!! Oh, the ARROGANCE! We arrived at her office maybe sixteen minutes late. Through the Ms.'s “amazing grace” we were admonished to NEVER EVER, as if we (I) were a children to never be late again... Since, I was still under their care, they dealt with my pain, but after this encounter at my first follow-up with her stating, “Nothing is where I put it!” I decided to find a different doctor and leave the UTMB system. At this point, all care was completely stopped by UTMB. All pain medicines were also stopped. I had to withstand the pain in the interim until I found a different doctor. My fabulous wife called around and after talking with people at Methodist Hospital, they recommended Mr. Brinker of Fondren Orthopedic Hospital AKA Texas Orthopedic Hospital. I was under Mr. Brinker's care for over six months. Never did he do one thing with my leg other than x-rays and tell me my leg was in thousands of pieces and I was a difficult case. Never did he, even after several requests from me, do anything to make my life more comfortable. After so much time in pain and the misdiagnosis that I had Hepatitis C by Fondren Orthopedic Hospital AKA Texas Orthopedic Hospital. I entered a deep depression. Mr. Brinker was very well aware of my mental state and HE STILL DID NOTHING to ease my pain! I am sure he did not treat his other patients this way regarding their pain and there was NO REASON FOR ME TO TREAT ME THIS WAY! What is the reason to be so sadistic with someone in such pain? In his eyes I was nothing more than a terribly broken Tibia and that is all I was. Mr. Brinker is NOT adept at treating the WHOLE person. Now, I know why so-called doctors specialize in certain areas of medicine, is because it excuses them from treating the person. Other doctors working on me did not understand the lack of compassion on Mr. Brinker's part. He felt his job was complete by sending me to a pill mill that was NOT ADA compliant. I could not fit into the elevator at the building. Their/his policy of NOT treating pain is BULLSHIT. At the cost of multiple thousands of dollars I found a doctor to treat my pain and there was not one problem stopping the pain medicine after it was no longer needed. I would speak about his bedside manner, but when he was to finally remove the broken hardware from UTMB, he failed to see me before or after surgery, leaving that to his assistant nurse. I faced undue humiliation at every turn with this hospital, WITHOUT ANY APOLOGIES FOR THE MISDIAGNOSIS and the like, left me feeling that I was between a rock (insurance) and the prospect (hard place) that I made a bad choice in choosing this Hospital, I'm sure I became more belligerent the longer I lingered, but there is NEVER a reason for a doctor to further frustrate the patient by stating “Whether or not you agree with me, Mr. Doiron, I will go home to my wife and daughter at the end of the day.” Well. Kiss my ass! More than once, I was hot and miserable waiting several hours in a hot vinyl wheelchair in pain in their waiting room. Anybody that has sat in a wheelchair having their leg fully extended knows how painful that alone is, much less my condition. My wife and I swear we saw Mr. Brinker in one of his restored convertible cars in the parking garage during one of these long waits. Playing with his toys while his patients wait!!! Since I developed a infection in the tibia, I made the difficult decision to have my right leg removed. In my opinion, the only saving grace of Fondren Orthopedic Hospital is Dr. Loncarich. He is a genuinely kind and wonderful doctor who takes ALL the necessary time to care for his patients. I never had an unacceptable wait at the Pasadena branch.
