"At first I struggled to open up to her, and I feel that after having a frank conversation about it (helped spurred on from another professional of great respect and another person in the mental health field in the Great River Mental Health Care uh...? Their practice here in Iowa), the dialogue between us has been substantially improved. It takes time and reinforcement to build successful habits, and just like that hard work, an open and frank discussion is also a hard thing for both a provider and a client to approach. Trying to bring up a thoughtful approach to how to help, is difficult if the client's approach to the treatment plan is not well formed or causes distress to the provider, and I had in my own mind had very unrealistic expectations. Given that I had the help of another wonderful caring professional I was able to gather my thoughts and courage to continue treatment with Ashley. Once I voiced those expectations I can now see how Ashley must have tried to steel herself for a painfully unfulfilling dialogue with a client. My psychiatric doctor and I had a discussion on the topic and because my doctor is also a wonderful professional he helped me get started on the right foot, about how to approach Ashley about my feelings on this. We've been having productive conversations since about my problems, and they're getting a better foundation of support for me to help work towards a better relationship between my family and peers. Ashley has been punctual and professional in all my experiences. Due to those positive experiences I thought it necessary to share my successes with my professional care teams.
