Emergency Medicine Doctors - Bridgeport, CT

"My experience with this doctor was so bad, I only now have the ability to write about it without becoming angry once again. My 17 year old son had a seizure and was brought to the ER by ambulance and treated by Doctor Kuittinen. This was his first seizure, I was extremely scared and overwhelmed, and I knew nothing of his condition. Blood tests found marijuana in my son's system and the doctor told me she was certain that this had caused his seizure. She told me she had consulted with a pediatric neurologist who also said "it was definitely the pot." She said my son did not have a seizure, he had convulsions from drugs. She said she knew this because my son didn't wet his pants. The doctor went on to say she knew how "these teenage druggies and drunkies" were and basically told me I had a bad kid. She was so cold to my son, it just breaks my heart to picture him waking up alone in the ER to this sneering, judgmental doctor. When I took my son to a pediatric neurologist for a follow-up, I told him the story about Doctor Kuittenen. He seemed stunned by want I told him. He said first, marijuana does not cause seizures, in fact it does the opposite and calms brain activity and second, he is the only pediatric neurologist at DBH and Kuittenen never spoke to him about my son. What I learned from the neurologist was that everything Doctor Kuittenen told me was wrong. My son DID have a seizure (he went on to be diagnosed with epilepsy), it was NOT the small amount of pot in his system that caused it, and she probably lied to me about ever speaking to a pediatric neurologist about my son's condition. Bottom line, this doctor is an ER doctor. She should have made sure my son was stable then get us to a neurologist who could do a proper diagnosis. But Doctor Kuittenen, in my opinion, is so convinced of her great medical ability, she insisted on judging my son's condition without the proper expertise or credentials. I'm so happy I didn't really listen to her advice. I now tell everyone I know about the bad experience I had at DBH and have moved to a practice associated with Northern Westchester Medical Center. If DBH hires doctors like Kuittenen, then there are serious problems there. "
