Dentists - Huntington Park, CA

"This was my first (and last) time at this dental office. I selected this office due to their high rating on Yelp but should have paid attention to the negative reviews. I was due for my semiannual dental cleaning which is covered by dental insurance plans. I got dental x-rays done at this office since I was a new patient. The dentist recommended a semi-deep cleaning with laser because my gums were a little bit red. This was his recommendation just by looking at the pictures (not x-rays) that the x-ray technician took with a wand. I am sure I had a puzzled look on my face, so the dentist gave me a mirror to hold and poked around my gums to show me what he was referring to. Please note that the dentist never performed a periodontal charting (exam where the dentist pokes your gums and says a series of numbers— not my first time at a dentist). The billing tech comes in and says my cost will be $260 out of pocket for the recommended cleaning. I explained that this year I reduced my dental insurance coverage (since I only expected to do my routine dental cleaning as advised by my previous dentist) and I would postpone that cleaning procedure until early next year once I upgrade my dental insurance. She tried scaring me saying, by next year you may need a deep cleaning which cost $400+. She leaves and another employee comes and tells me I am all done. (?!) I asked if I would get a regular cleaning done and says no because that would worsen things. I asked to speak to the dentist. The dentist comes in and says, I hear you have a high deductible insurance. Let me see what we can do. The billing tech comes back and says the best we can do $190 for the procedure. I declined and was dismissed without a cleaning. I will be taking mine and my family business to a more honest dentistry that does not see us with a money sign on our forehead.
