He has some generic answering service that handles the scheduling, and they are TERRIBLE to work with... they refuse to "work in" gravely ill patients, you just need to wait until the "next available" which is always several weeks out.

Since we couldn't get an appointment for weeks, we just went to the ER. The ER doctor recommended my husband see a specialist ASAP (they didn't have the specialized imaging technology needed) and gave us a referral to a specific clinic. Unfortunately, that clinic was no longer accepting new patients, so we needed to get a referral from his primary care doctor to see a different practice.

After about half an hour of being transferred around, hung up on, and all around treated badly, I finally get ahold of someone. I explain that we were instructed by the ER doctor to get in with a specialist ASAP and that we need a referral.

They inform me that they will absolutely NOT write a referral unless he is seen by the doctor (feels like a cash grab to me, all the doctor could have done was listen to his worrying array of symptoms before writing the referral). The fact he is an existing patient who had already been seen in the ER was irrelevant, no referral would be released without a visit and copay.

After explaining that would delay care for upwards of a month (can't get on the books with a specialist without a referral, and can't get an appointment to get the referral for weeks), they pretty much said "sucks to be you" so I gave up.

We got the referral (same day) elsewhere and have since switched doctors. They really deserve 0 stars, I've never encountered a clinic so bound up by red tape and answering systems that they can't address a situation like this. Thankfully my husband received the care he needed and is on the mend, but only over the squawking protests of Dr. Richardson's bumbling staff.
