Yesterday I brought my son to Grene Vision in Derby, KS to see Dr. Robin Agpoon. We were greeted by the receptionist who was very nice. They quickly called my son's name and we went back to begin his screenings. They seemed a bit rushed but not too bad. During screening as he read the lines my son wouldn’t even finish reading the line halfway through and they would skip to the next line. I did not say anything about this thinking they must not need him to read the whole line possibly. My son was born with cataracts in both eyes, his right eye being the worst. I had mentioned that since he is ten years old maybe we could discuss going back to Kansas City to the specialist. When Dr. Agpoon entered the room, she did not introduce herself (we normally see Dr. Whitfill but had moved to Dr. Agpoon since it was much closer to our home) I had never actually met Dr. Agpoon before this. Her first words were “so you are wanting to go ahead with the eye surgery” I don’t know about other ten-year-olds or how they would react, however, my son became instantly nervous thinking she was going to do surgery right then. My son is Autistic and has anxiety, plus ADHD so he gets very nervous at doctors’ offices and in general. She started his exam and was very rushed and edgy through all of it. Towards the end of the exam, she stated she wanted to dilate his eyes. When she mentions eye drops my son became even more nervous and informed her, that he was not ready for the eye drops. Dr. Agpoon firmly stated he had to do them or she would not give him his prescription for glasses. He asked her to give him a minute to mentally prepare, she became frustrated and said she is going to go work and walked out of the exam room. I then asked her assistant if they were aware my son had Autism, but I received no response from her assistant. Dr. Agpoon then quickly returned to the exam room with her laptop, she proceeded to sit down across from my son and open her laptop. After she opened her laptop, she leaned forward towards my son looking him directly in his eye and said “you need to lay down and let me give you the eye drops or I am sending you to Dr. Whitfill, no one wants to go to Dr. Whitfill, trust me they like me more than him.” She said to my son “mom can hold your hands down”. Then she looked at me and asked “can you get him to lay down”. I said of course, as I was trying to calm him, she kept talking over me to him which made it very difficult to calm him down. She said he had 3 minutes to lay down or she was sending him away to Dr. Whitfill. I did get him to lay down very soon after she said that, less than 1 minute. The second his head touched the headrest she leaned forward and tried to pry his eye open, this frightened him immensely. He immediately sat up and started crying saying you didn’t give me time to get my head right, (he has ways of coping with being scared and this is trying to imagine a happy place). She became angry and said I told you, you have 3 minutes, then (3 minutes had still not passed) she said that’s it you can go to Dr. Whitfill. By this time my son was crying even more, not because he was frightened of Dr. Whitfill but because he was frightened of her. He repeatedly asked her “what did I do wrong, I thought I was doing good) I said that may be best as he may have more patient with autistic children. She said it has nothing to do with being patient. I am giving 2 stars because everyone else was very nice and pleasant, however, I would never suggest anyone with a special needs child take their child to Dr. Robin Agpoon she lacks empathy, integrity, and professionalism. I have never heard of a doctor trying to frighten a child using one of their colleagues’ names
