When you have a feeling the moment you walk into an office that you should leave, you should leave. I didn't listen to my instincts and Dr. Ziets performed a needle aspiration to reduce a lump that had shown up spontaneously on the palm of my hand and had become red and swollen. The aspiration was very painful and honestly as it was happening I had the feeling the dr. was causing me undue pain on purpose. And since that very day, my fourth finger is stiff, no longer bends properly, is slow to respond when I type and is painful when I do things like grip the handlebars of a bike. Dr. Ziets' office was incredibly combative, charging me the full cost of this procedure (the bill was over $500 for the part that insurance didn't cover) that left me injured for the long term, probably permanently, and Ziets got on the phone to tell me that it will go away on its own and did not take responsibility. But it has been almost exactly a year, and has not improved. The practice gave me two choices: pay for another doctor in the same hospital to look at my finger and determine whether Ziets caused the injury and then make a complaint through Mt. Sinai, or pay the full price of the procedure. I decided to let it go and have thought carefully about whether to leave this review. I do not recommend Dr. Ziets. For his manner, his skill or his office staff. And I blame myself for not leaving the office when my gut told me to.
