After 2 months of meeting weekly, I stopped seeing Phyllis after she yelled at me. Yes, the therapist yelled at the patient. We had unpacked a lot over this time which caused irritability and frustration. Today's session consisted of her telling me that the person I'm in conflict with has his own trauma and that I need to understand his need for routine, she accused me of refusing to accept this person for who they are. I explained to her that I was getting frustrated because her advice in a previous scenario indicated that I need to set boundaries, but then the advice today was that I need to accept them for who they are. Within reason my tone was not cheery but not once had I used disrespectful language nor yelled at her. She refused to hear me say I was not mad at her or refusing her advice but instead was looking for clarification as she was too busy saying "I'm just not going to give you advice then" among ither accusatory things. After she continued to escalate, I ended the call.
