I saw Dr. Sicotte for a second opinion appointment and despite having personally brought over all of my outside records almost 3 months before this visit, she had not looked at any of this information (except for an MRI scan that I had done at Cedars). Often during the visit she interrupted what I was saying with some of her questions and this made it difficult to give a coherent/clear picture of my story and why I was referred to her. She seemed more concerned with getting the visit done in the allotted time. I tried to bring up some clinical symptoms at the end of my visit (ones that I had been referred to her for and that were changing) that I wanted to tell her about, but she quickly diverted the conversation away from this to what she wanted to focus on, seemingly to keep the visit on track and finish in time. I even offered to show her a specific record if she wanted (she had been asking me about this lab result information) since she hadn't looked at anything and I had brought duplicate copies of everything with me to the visit - she said no, she didn't need to even though she had just been asking me what these results were. I don't feel her rationale/final opinion were as clearly explained to me as they could be - that she rather just do this in a note to my referring provider on her own time and not have to spend extra time at a clinic visit explaining them to me (the patient). I was afraid to ask her to summarize her opinion again because of how she had been trying to move on from/dismissing things I had brought up earlier during the visit. At the very end of the visit she asked me what I thought was wrong and what tests I wanted to have done even though I had not demanded anything (either a diagnosis or any intervention) up to this point. She also didn't even seem to realize that this was for a second opinion because at the end of the visit she said we can see you in 6 months with repeat scans, to which I replied I was still seeing my original provider and this referral was for a second opinion (my provider had called her ahead of time to help arrange the consult so she had been informed). She just replied by saying "Oh, that makes sense you would want to see someone instead that is closer to you instead of driving across town to see me." I have never had such a negative interaction in a doctor's office before or felt more dismissed. I still feel I did not get the full chance to covey all of my information to her and that at some point in the visit she decided she had heard all she needed to form an opinion and didn't need to listen to anything else I had to say. I feel I would have gotten better care/the same information by just having her review the information from my referring provider and looking at my scans and not actually visiting in person. I think a referral to her can go OK for a patieint as long as she remains interested in the case (not like she seemed to do here which was become disinterested), otherwise the patient will leave feeling like they were a waste of her time like I did.
