Dr. Nakeshia L. Brown Hunter, MD

The Oyster Point pediatrics office has welcoming, friendly office/admin staff and customer service. From my initial phone call to set up my newborn's appointment to the actual visit to the office, the customer service of the office/admin staff was both patient and friendly. I felt like a valued customer and parent.  Once at the appointment, the nurse that greeted us and took us to the patient room was friendly and welcoming as well. Once placed in a patient room, we waited 45 minutes before Dr. Brown came to see our newborn. A very long wait time. My husband and I are older parents and had our last child 20 years ago, so going back into a pediatric office setting is all new for us. Upon first meeting Dr. Brown, it felt like she was following a "first time parents" script and shared basic newborn parenting information such as co-sleeping safety and feeding times.  We let the nurse who took us to the patient room know that we had very specific questions about the Hep B vaccination to ask the Dr, and Dr. Brown seemed to be on the defensive about vaccination questions immediately as the conversation on vaccines started when we really just had concerns and questions on why so early in a newborn's life is that specific vaccination given. I could sense she is a caring pediatrician but bedside manner to build a trusting rapport with parents needs improvement. We even tried making casual conversation with her to try to make the interaction more comfortable and asked her where she was originally from because she mentioned she's not from this area. Dr. Brown's visit felt very transactional...there was very little trying to get to know us as parents to better serve our newborn.
