In the spring of 2021, my husband shared with me that there was blood in his urine. I realize that that is a very personal thing to share here, but it was that symptom that propelled him to get a referral from his trusted hematologist to see urologist Lonnie Klein MD. It was all 'upward and onward' from our first meeting with Dr. Klein when he humbly but confidently assured us that, with what turned out to be a diagnosis of bladder cancer, in addition to stage 3 prostate cancer, this was his 'wheelhouse' and that he was well equipped for treating my husband. He looked at the results of my husband's CAT scan and systematically and quite thoroughly took charge of my husband's treatments for every single medical issue. By that, I mean that he personally took charge of the treatment plan from start to finish for the bladder cancer and where other medical professionals were in charge of other issues such as the radiation treatments for the prostate cancer, Dr. Klein always asked to be sure that all of those treatments had been successfully completed. I felt as though he had taken on the whole of my husband's medical concerns as though we were his family. It was quite remarkable. It certainly did give me a sense of peace through several difficult months. My husband was always treated with care and respect, as I was I. I especially appreciated that Dr. Klein understood that my husband was relying on me to be his 'ears' at our visits with him which helped lessen feelings of being overwhelmed and at the same time helped me feel less like a helpless bystander. They welcomed me to be by my husband's side as much as possible which, I think, deepened our bond. The good news is that, as of today, my husband is cancer free. We are so grateful to Dr. Klein and his office for all of their support, skill, and attention to detail that has brought us to this moment. We are breathing a sigh of relief and know that we are in good hands in the months and years to come as we rely on Dr. Klein to check and recheck my husband as needed to keep him cancer free. We thank you Dr. Klein and God who’s good will it is to work and heal through you.
