What happened to the care in healthcare? 2022-12-27
I was scheduled for an appointment with her for December 22nd. Based upon my appointment with her last year, I remembered that she had suggested medication (estrogen) to improve the chances of obtaining a good cervical sample. I called the office early in November and left a message asking for that prescription. An assistant called back saying that she would pass the message on. A week, or so, later I had no response from Lisa, so on November 15th I mailed a letter to her (at Desert West Obstetrics in Peoria) requesting that she call in the prescription so that I could have it in advance of the December 22nd appointment. About 2 weeks later, the letter was returned to me as undeliverable. I called the office to verify that I had sent the letter to correct address and that Lisa still worked there. I had sent the letter to the correct address and Lisa still worked there. Still trying desperately to advocate for myself and improve chances of getting to a sufficient PAP specimen, I sent Lisa an email. She responded to the email asking if I wanted pills or a cream. I responded back that I wanted the cream, gave her the pharmacy information and asked her to let me know that she had called in the prescription. I received no further communication from Lisa. I called the pharmacy on the off chance that she called in the prescription but forgot to let me know. No prescription was called in. I was, disappointedly, surprised by her unresponsiveness and lack of response to my request because I used to feel that NPs were more respectful of patients’ needs than MDs/DOs. In this instance, I have been proven wrong. Negative experiences with the healthcare system often causes people to put off dealing with, or avoid, the system; resulting illness and possibly death from issues that could have been diagnosed and treated if caught early on. Of course, based on Lisa's unresponsiveness I chose not to go to the appointment.
