In all my years managing my mental illness, I have never come across a health care professional as uncaring, disorganized, and uninterested in patient outcomes as Dr. Gordon. Across two sessions, she expressed negative judgment about the doses of the medications I am taking; when I finally asked her how I was supposed to react to her opinions, she stated that her judgment was because I couldn’t explain to her why I was taking my current doses. The problem is, she never asked me that question — I could very easily have given her my medication background, but instead she chose to repeatedly make assumptions (and rude faces) rather than communicate with me clearly.

Dr. Gordon also decided — unilaterally, after two sessions — that none of my medications were working (she told me at the beginning of the second session that they were keeping me stable, then reversed course 10 minutes later for some unknown reason) and tried to prescribe me a medication I had just told her I had tried before to no effect. In doing so, she didn’t address that concern (such as by saying “Since you tried this a long time ago, maybe we could give it another try”); she simply ignored it. At the same time, she refused to prescribe me the medications I am currently on because, in her words, they were not right for my condition (interestingly, three other health care professionals since then have disagreed with her on that assertion). It was at that point that I terminated the session and decided not to return!

Bottom line: If you’re willing to be a doormat and acquiesce to a chaotic, unkind, callous individual who will dismiss what you have to say and potentially refuse to prescribe you the medications that keep you stable, Dr. Gordon is the person for you! Otherwise, stay well clear.
