LASIK

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure that improves vision by permanently correcting refractive vision errors. Refractive vision errors are sight problems (such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) that typically require patients to wear contact lenses or glasses. Nearsightedness (myopia) causes blurred vision at a distance, while farsightedness (hyperopia) makes objects that are up close appear blurry. Astigmatism results in blurred vision at both near and far distances. Each eye is either nearsighted or farsighted, and can additionally have astigmatism. These refractive vision errors develop from imperfections in the curvature of the eye, which LASIK fixes through the use of a laser. The laser changes the shape of the eye by cutting away tissue from the cornea (clear outer layer of the eye).

LASIK is generally considered an elective procedure (not medically necessary) since patients can wear glasses or contact lenses instead of undergoing LASIK. Nevertheless, many people still elect to undergo LASIK to have better vision without having to wear corrective lenses. Certain professionals, such as pilots, military members, firefighters, and athletes, might particularly benefit from LASIK.

Ophthalmologists (eye doctors) evaluate patients before surgery, measuring the cornea and checking for any eye irregularities that would disqualify patients from LASIK. A special eye scanner is used to create a map of the cornea. This map guides the surgeon in developing an individualized LASIK treatment plan. Once approved for LASIK, contact-wearers are advised to switch to glasses for the three weeks leading up to their surgery.

LASIK is a brief procedure, lasting for about half an hour, depending on the state of a patient's eyes and the corneal reshaping required. Patients lie down on a reclining chair and have numbing eye drops applied to one or both eyes to eliminate pain and discomfort during the procedure. While the eyes are held open by a device, the eye surgeon raises a fixation light where patients direct their eyes. The surgeon uses a femtosecond laser to cut a precise circular incision in the cornea's surface. The surgeon then manually folds back the corneal flap to access the stroma (inner cornea).

An excimer laser is then used to remove certain amounts of corneal tissue. For patients with farsightedness, the laser cuts tissue on the outer regions of the cornea, making the central cornea more prominent. For patients with nearsightedness, the opposite is done; central corneal tissue is removed while the outer tissue is left alone, flattening the eye. In patients with astigmatism, the laser is used to even out the surface of the corneal tissue, making the eye more spherical. When the lasering process is complete, the ophthalmologist folds the corneal flap to its regular position. The flap quickly begins to heal and naturally reattach itself to the eye.

LASIK patients need someone to drive them home from the procedure and cannot drive for the following 24 hours. Recovery from LASIK lasts about five days. Patients typically notice improved vision within a day or two of surgery. Prescription eye drops are given to patients to alleviate discomfort and promote eye healing. During this recovery time, patients must be incredibly careful not to touch or rub their eyes. Ophthalmologists often instruct patients to wear protective glasses during the day and night to prevent potential damage from eye rubbing.

LASIK can improve the experience of certain activities such as swimming or reading, and in some cases, LASIK can be a life-changing procedure for those with severe refractive vision errors. LASIK may also save patients money by eliminating the recurring need for updated corrective lenses.

Secondary Cataract Surgery

During cataract surgery, the cloudy, damaged lens is removed from the eye and replaced with a synthetic lens. This lens (called an intraocular lens implant) is held in place by a thin membrane inside the eye. In some cases, months or years after cataract surgery, scar tissue slowly forms and covers this membrane, making vision cloudy again. This is called posterior capsule opacity (PCO). Secondary cataract surgery is a procedure performed to treat PCO and restore vision.

The symptoms of posterior capsule opacity are oddly similar to those of cataracts, including blurry vision, glare, or halos when looking at bright light. However, PCO is a different condition, and secondary cataract surgery is not used to treat cataracts.

During secondary cataract surgery, an ophthalmologist cuts a hole (most often using a laser) through the clouded membrane. This allows light to pass clearly through the lens again, making it possible to see clearly. The painless procedure only takes a few minutes, and is usually performed right in the office. Afterwards, patients may notice a difference in their vision right away. They may be given drops to put in their eyes to reduce pain and speed healing.

My review keeps getting removed from Google as I guess they don't want to look bad. I had one more visit after writing this original review and was confronted on it not being "nice enough" and was told that they'd to see a nicer review from me in the future. Reviews are meant to be unbiased, I wasn't even going to write one until Dr Tony asked me to leave a good review for them. So I'm assuming they wanted me to lie and that most of these comments are BS. I've now redacted 2 stars since my original review because of this.

In rebuttal to my review, Dr Lisa told me "well it's a surgery, of course there are going to be many post op appointments". it's minor surgery, so actually no, it wasn't obvious to me. never assume what the patient knows. I wasn't told about them besides the first 5 appts. so I had no idea what all was expected to happen for 2 months post surgery, I only know what you tell me about it.

it's one thing to be late seeing me every few visits, it's another to be late almost every time I see them. especially at the frequency I was coming in.

Dr Tony and Lisa have excuses for everything and want to argue with their customers instead of taking the criticism either with a grain of salt or seriously. real professional to pick a fight with your patient on their review instead of "I'm sorry we couldn't accommodate your needs, we'll keep this in mind for future patients"
you'd think they would understand that people work corporate jobs, with meetings back to back.

I didn't even write this in my original review but now that they've asked me to talk about how the surgery went because that seemed to be the only thing that went well here, here it is:

The surgery went great, I got great results ultimately. however early on in my healing process, Dr Tony forgot to refill my steroids very early on as mine leaked and ran out. due to this my vision got very blurry again and my eyes were not healing as expected. so not only did he forget to write the crucial script (it happens), I called for 3 days on the prescription line and no one answered me even when I was leaving messages. my next appointment, Dr Lisa tells me sternly "you really shouldn't have gone without the steroids", as if it was my fault. then she gave me a sample to go home with. this whole time (5 days) I had gone without steroids and Dr Tony could have just sent me home with a sample?? scary moment when your eyes of all things stop healing.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. However, I found several times that I was waiting over an hour past my appointment time. I got PRK surgery and was not warned of all of the follow-ups to come besides the first 5 appointments the days following the appointment. Had I known this, I would not have gotten this surgery this year considering the amount of time I had to take off for all of the follow-ups. Transparency would have been appreciated. This office really does not cater to the working person. I work a corporate 8-5 job and cannot be taking off in the middle of the day twice a week for appointments. Saturdays or extended hours would have been appreciated and would allow this office to have more clients.
