I have seen Dr. Gilligan for 10+ years. Primarily for diabetes caused by pancreas removal. She also reviews and coordinates with MD Anderson for my Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1 (MEN 1) that causes benign and occasionally malignant small tumors in many of my endocrine glands. I cannot say enough about how Dr. Gilligan has been there for me between the very good and very bad. I have celebrated and cried with her depending on what health or mental challenge has been in my way. I know that she cares for me as an individual and not just a patient. She makes referrals to the best specialists when I need extra help locally and gives me the tough news when I need to hear it. She recently convinced me to upgrade my pump and sensor combo because I was no longer doing well managing with two different apps and devices. The switch immediately helped my BG levels and I wouldn't have done it had she not kept on me to do it. Because of my MEN 1 I have seen many endos at many locations. Dr. Gilligan has been the one that has cared the most, done the research, and looked out for me as a holistic person and not just a challenging endocrine patient to study. I don't just recommend her, I TRUST her.

I see Dr. Gilligan for hypothyroidism and insulin resistance (but we are working together on this with exercise and diet). Dr Gilligan is a doctor that cares for her patients. Further, patients that listen to her she goes above and beyond to assist with alternatives to change your lifestyle to improve your issue without the use of medicine.  She is an athlete and tries some, if not most, of the "new" sample drugs to she can give feedback to patients on the side effects. That effort alone speaks volumes. She is always professional and responsive. I am glad I was referred to her by my colleague. As far as less than stellar reviews denoting her chairside manner... I disagree and would go as far as stating they may not have liked her directness about their situation.  For example: When Dr Gilligan explained I was insulin resistant and needed to make changes, she gave the comparison of being diabetic is akin to being in ICU and insulin resistance is akin to visiting the hospital.  She told me I was visiting and need to make changes.  That was the directness I needed to make changes. She suggested a book to read, referred me to a nutritionist and made additional suggestions. Now, that is the doctor all should want.

I have seen Dr. Gilligan for over 3 years now and that says a lot.  I am serious about my care and she is very thorough.  I will not stay with a doctor that is not good.  My health depends on it.  I get my insurance at my job based on her eligibility because I have to be able to see my doc.   She is down to earth and very focused on my needs when I am in the office.
