I have been seeing Dr. Zittel for my GYN pre- & post-menopausal concerns. I have a hx of trauma with PTSD and Dr. Zittel really is so patient and explains what he is going to do before he does it and when he does he is very gentle. Most OB/GYNs that I have had in the past were all "wham bam thank you ma'am", come in do the exam and leave before you can even process any possible questions or concerns before they walk out the door. After my exam and Ultrasound, Dr. Zittel brought me promptly back to his office and explained the results and what it meant for me along with educating me on the condition and possible treatments so I could make and informed decision how and what I wanted him to do. I don't find Dr. Zittel to be absent-minded at all. He is very thoughtful in how he explains things and that's a good quality in a dr. I never feel rushed through the appt at all. I'm a nurse and drs rarely take the time to explain things in detail and respond to any questions you have. But, Dr. Zittel really took his time with me despite being very busy, and made me feel like at that moment that I was his only patient. People like to criticize a physician for not immediately knowing what is going on with you and why. People need to understand that a provider has 15 min (which insurance companies dictate) to find out what has brought you into see him, get a history of what has been going on and the current symptoms you are having; decide on the treatment plan like what tests to run, what medications can help you, what differential diagnoses to rule out and a possible diagnosis which sometimes is just not possible. A good dr will admit if they do not know what may be going on with you. The things you don't know is after you leave, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Frequently, the dr consults with other drs on how to proceed, researches the latest studies and literature, reviews your lab work and other test results, so that he is prepared to tell you what he thinks may be going on. I can tell you from my experience that doing all that in 15 min is really difficult to do. Medicine is not a science, it's an art. Sometimes, drs just don't know what is going on in the body (and that goes for any dr), but if you have a good dr, he will know when he needs to send you to a specialist. It's not a failure on his part, it's about being responsible to the patient and ensuring the patient gets the best care possible.
