I have been a patient since 2004 and was satisfied with the service for the most part. To my surprise in October of 2019 another provider informed me that he found a large cavity. I called Dr. Emmett Wilson to confirm these findings since I have been going to my appointments twice a year to find out why this cavity was overlooked, and he said I needed to come in. I went to see him the next day he examined the tooth and downplayed the situation, and failed to tell me then that I needed a root canal, by then my benefits had maxed out and I thought I just needed a filling so I asked him if I monitor the tooth with extra care if I could get it filled in a couple months when my benefits renew and he said yes. In two weeks, I started to feel discomfort with the tooth, and it wasn't until then, when I called him back, he said on the phone it sounded like a needed a root canal. I went in to see him again and he confirmed indeed, I needed a root canal. I asked why and said obviously the cavity was overlooked since I come to my appointments twice a year and he said the cavity was diagnosed in March of 2017 and he must have told me. My head started spinning! What dentist sees their patient twice a year and ignore a cavity for two years? He took “NO” responsibility for not filling the cavity, he initially blamed me and said I missed an appointment back in March of 2017 and his justification was deflecting his role as a dentist the entire time, however I wasn’t letting up and he eventually said he missed the cavity. He then proceeded to say my root canal will cost three thousand without offering any discount for his neglect. What professional blames a patient for their own negligence? I would have respected the fact had he initially owned up to it. I have since then changed dentist and requested my records from him. When I finally received them I read through it and come to find out the day in question that “he said” he diagnosed the cavity the notes clearly stated "no cavity detected" also there were notes in my records that I don't ever recall happening and he twisted my words in some of his documentation. I called him on Jan 28, 2020 to ask him about the discrepancies in his notes and he said he shouldn't be talking to me about my records when I stated to him “these are your own words” am I’m asking you to clarify he said does not want to talk about it.
