I am now writing one year and a half following the end of a 20 session /4 week radiation treatment performed by Dr. Clayton Hess of Cure Rays on my lower legs for the purpose of treating squamous cell carcinomas. On March 4, 2024 Dr. Hess had persuaded me that this would be the perfect treatment for three squamous carcinomas on my lower legs. The result is that after all this time, almost 2 years, wounds on both legs have not healed. Dr. Hess had told me repeatedly that I would be fully healed two weeks following cessation of the radiation exposure and what would result would be “beautiful, smooth, hairless skin”. What I have had is a nightmare with no real skin remaining. A wide area of former skin was damaged to the point that there is no blood supply for healing. Six physicians have been involved with this never-ending process and all agree that the cause of the problem is threefold. The increased radiation to fit a six week regimen into four weeks seriously damaged what was once skin and is now lifeless and bloodless material. At no time did Dr. Hess make me aware that the radiation would destroy all blood vessels exposed to it. There is no real skin left in the area for dermatologists to work with. I have spent 7 months in wound care with no benefit. Another seriously poor decision was made to treat two carcinomas on the left leg at the same time. A “twofer”. By doing two at once on the left leg with a large diameter cone instead of targeting precisely one at a time, good skin between them and around them was destroyed leaving nothing to promote healing of this wound or any other arising from a possible future carcinoma. Both legs are now infected and after two failed oral antibiotic treatments and a 40 times IV infusion the wounds are still unhealed and unsightly. This has been a medical nightmare with no end in sight and the possibility of amputation.
