Biopsy

A biopsy is a procedure performed to remove a small sample of cells for testing. The cells are examined in a laboratory to check for disease, or sometimes to see how badly a known disease is affecting them. Biopsy can be performed on any part of the body.

Although biopsy is most often associated with cancer, it can also be used to check for other diseases, such as infections. A biopsy sample can be scraped, cut, collected with a needle, taken with a machine that punches out a tiny piece, or removed with the tiny tools in an endoscope.

In most cases, a biopsy is a simple outpatient procedure. Depending on the procedure, patients may need to stop taking certain medications beforehand, such as blood thinners. It is important for patients to tell doctors if they are pregnant, as certain biopsies require the use of x-rays to guide the needle to the right location. There is usually very little pain associated with a biopsy. Patients will have to wait a few days to hear the results.

The GYN/oncology team and MD are absolutely fantastic !!!! I'm 62, and came down cervical, uterine, ovarian, and colon-rectal cancers in the store ages of 1984-1985. About forty years ago, back before many of these MD s, and their support staff were even born, much less educated In these fields. I was a Huge part of their educational processes, In the development of PENTAX scopes, cameras, "belly button" and rectal surgery on human subjects. At 19 yrs old my prognosis was to live only to the age of 21 yrs, if I was lucky. Due to other human participants, like me, and a massive educational growth in these fields of MD training, and places like the the Franz Cancer Center at Providence, I've surpassed the 21 yrs old prognosis by over 41 yrs !!!

Dr. Darus listens very well. He is both knowledgeable and compassionate. He remembers my husband's name and other details about my family. He reminds me I'm in charge and can make decisions about my care and change my mind about those decisions. He is a balance of professionalism and kindness. From the day I was shockingly diagnosed with uterine serous carcinoma in September of 2023, Dr Darus has his team have been unbelievably supportive, kind and professional through my 18 month journey through clinical trial NGY026. Today I am cancer free with no signs of cancer. On my last treatment, the 8 nurses who had given me the injections gathered to cheer me on and celebrate my "Finish Cancer " journey! I will always remember and be thankful for their kindness and compassion through my journey. They are AlLL MY HEROES!!!

I was referred to Dr. Darus because I needed a surgical specialist. He listened to all of my concerns as did everyone on his surgical team. He is a very skilled surgeon, and I am thankful he was the one to do my surgery. I had a lot of scar tissue and my surgery took a little longer than expected. He did a phenomenal job. I feel so thankful I was placed with the right surgeon.

Since meeting Dr Darus in September 2023, he has guided me through a Stage 3 Uterine Serous Carcinoma to a current diagnosis of no disease found. This conclusion has been achieved through on- going ECHO and CT Scans of my Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis and on-going subcutaneous injections of a clinical trial for Stage 3 Uterine Serous Carcinoma called PHESGO. Dr Darus is my Hero!
