I was referred to Dr. Hurst from my PCP for a colposcopy. I have never had a colposcopy done before. Dr. Hurst and her assistant explained that I would feel a small pinch, but I should be fine. It was not a pinch. I felt like someone was stabbing me from the inside. I have never felt anything so terrible. Dr. Hurst and her assistant were knowledgeable and thorough and stated what they would be doing. They did not forewarn me of the bleeding and pain afterward. They did not comfort me while I was sobbing during the procedure.  They did not ask me if I was ok. Being a survivor of SA, this was very traumatic for me. I was stuck on my back in stirrups that hold your legs at a 90 degree angle from your body. I could not stop the procedure at all. I was trapped. Afterward, I sat in my car for a half hour in the parking lot sobbing. I did not feel cared for, I did not feel acknowledged, I did not feel safe, secure, or trusting. The pain was excruciating. I will NEVER have that procedure done unless there is a general anesthetic. I do not care that it is for cancer screening. I will never feel that sort of violation again.
