Dr. Peter, part of the UPMC team, used a da Vinci robot to perform laparoscopic surgery to correct my hiatal hernia (1/3 of my stomach was above my diaphragm, 6 approximately 3/4 inch incisions were made in my abdomen instead of one huge incision).  The procedure is called a "fundoplication", where Dr. Peter pulled my stomach back down through the diaphragm and wrapped the top of my stomach around itself to form a knot to help keep my stomach from moving upwards again.  Dr. Peter has several decades of experience doing fundoplications and was an early adopter of the da Vinci robot style of surgery.  Dr. Peter is one of the most personable doctors I have ever had.  He exudes a calm but energetic competence that puts you at ease right away.  He was able to explain my complex procedure in simple terms that I could understand.  Dr. Peter also does other sorts of surgery, but I don't know the entire list of his capabilities.  Dr. Peter performed my surgery at the Harrisburg Hospital (also part of UPMC) which maintains the da Vinci robot operating room.  His staff is also very knowlegeable and responsive.  Any question I posted to the UPMC portal was answered on the same day even though UPMC allows for a 2 day response window.
