Gynecologic Surgery
Gynecologic surgery is surgery performed on a woman's pelvic region. It is usually performed by an OB/GYN and can involve the bladder, rectum, or reproductive organs. Surgery in this area may be performed for many reasons, but the most common procedures include:
More and more, gynecologic surgery is moving towards the use of minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery uses several small incisions and tiny tools and scopes to perform the operation, rather than one large opening. While it is not appropriate in every case, minimally invasive surgery can lead to less scarring, less blood loss, faster recovery, and a lower chance for infection. Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery may be performed with a laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera on the end that allows the surgeon to see inside the body. It may also be performed robotically, using even smaller tools and cameras that a surgeon controls from a computer. Robotic surgery allows even better vision, precision, and control than laparoscopic surgery.
Over the course of a lifetime, many women need pelvic surgery to stay healthy. Qualified gynecologic surgeons will have the right tools at their disposal to provide care with a minimum of discomfort.

Let me start with: She’s a great surgeon! She seems brilliant and at the top of her field! She is knowledgeable and takes surgical concerns seriously ahead of time! But the reality is she treats patients with real and ongoing chronic severe pain due to endometriosis. And, unfortunately my pain has not been addressed nearly enough. I was supposed to be referred to both PT (months ago) and now a PMR specialist (a month ago) and I have yet to hear from either one. She has operated on me twice to remove endometriosis - once in the ER and 1 scheduled procedure and only on the 2nd surgery did I ask for 1 refill of medication (literally 12 tablets of 5mg Oxycodone) because I ran out and was still in agony. Despite being told by my anesthesia team ahead of time to call them if my pain wasn’t controlled after my Rx ran out, I was told after multiple calls (for a full day) to her office - to just try to take it easy and use a heating pad, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen (I was doing this) I’ve reached out several times (~5 since surgery #2 - after which I’ve experience excruciating sciatic pain that is getting worse!) and if she has replied it has maybe addressed my pain 1 time. I love Vandy, thoroughly, but I’m in pain and I need to be heard and have my pain addressed professionally. This illness has wrecked my entire life!
Misdiagnosed my wife with muscle spasms and anxiety. She had neither. She had a necrotic ovary and a life threatening infection from undissolved stitches. By the time Dr Yunker actually treated my wife, she was underweight due to how bad the infection had spread. Dr Yunker interrupted my wife at every single appointment and never performed a post op after performing surgery on my wife’s vagina. Dr Yunker never did listen to my wife or return phone calls after surgery when my wife was experiencing complications, and I ended up filing a formal complaint.
