On August 22nd of 2023, I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in my left hip and was told I would need a hip replacement. The doctor who made the diagnosis said he could schedule me for surgery at the end of October, 2023. I could barely walk at the time as the AVN had become completely debilitating. On August 31st, I met with Dr. Della Valle and his team at Hospital for Special Surgery. Confirming the diagnosis and the recommended procedure to fix the problem, Dr. Della Valle was able to schedule me for surgery on September 20th, less than 3 weeks from the initial consultation with him. Having chosen to move forward with Dr. Della Valle and HSS for the surgery, I am forever grateful for their skill and expertise in guiding me through the process of a total hip replacement. I am an active individual in his mid fifties and getting back to the point where I could resume my active lifestyle, was of paramount importance to me. Surgery was a success and 8 weeks later I am well along the road to feeling as good and as active as I was prior to the diagnosis. I can't thank Dr. Della Valle and his team enough as the whole experience at Hospital for Special Surgery has been incredible.
Having consulted with another doctor about the procedure prior to visiting with Dr. Della Valle at HSS, I realized how important it is to choose a doctor and hospital that have the experience and process in place that make a surgery like this seem routine. From the initial consultation, all the way through to my 6 week post-op follow up appointment in November, the experience with everyone you meet along the journey at HSS makes one realize why Hospital for Special Surgery is the number one Orthopedic Hospital in the country for 14 years and counting.
I would highly recommend anyone contemplating a hip replacement, meet with Dr Della Valle and his team, your long term health and well being deserves it.
