"I first saw Dr. Odula a few years ago when I was in extreme pain and feeling hopeless that the doctors would never discover what was wrong with me. She sent me for bloodwork, and quickly identified that I have rheumatoid arthritis; I willl never forget her compassion during that visit. I was in tears and she took my hands, looked me in the eyes, and said "I will make you feel better". Just 2-3 days later, I had no pain and felt like I had my life back again. She is truly my absolute favorite doctor. She gives you all of the time you need and answers all of your questions and concerns. She details everything you tell her into your record, runs regular tests, and ensures I see my eye doctor several times a year to be sure the medication isn't affecting my eyes and organs. I am so blessed to have been led to Dr. Odutola."

" My experience with Dr. Caroline D'Souza and her staff left me feeling that their behavior is unprofessional and careless. On May 7th 2021, I arrived as a new patient, to the Dr. Caroline D'Souza's office. The receptionist searched for my name, and he said: “Your appointment is a tele-appointment.” I asked why I was not informed that I don't need to come to the office. He said: “We left you a voice mail yesterday.” However, I found no voice mail on my phone. I chose to stay in their waiting room and have a tele-appointment from there. The receptionist told me that their Internet connection is not good. I insisted to stay for this tele-appointment, and he had no choice but let Dr. Caroline D'Souza know that I was in their waiting room. Then, I received a text message with a link to join the tele-appointment. I clicked on the link and heard a voice (no video) and the person simply said that Dr. Caroline D'Souza is sick and can't see me. I believe, it was Dr. Caroline D'Souza's nurse. I asked if any other doctor can see me, and immediately got a negative answer. First, I learned that my appointment was converted to a tele-appointment, then, i was told that doctor is sick. Neither nurse or receptionist said “sorry" or offered an apology. Unprofessional and careless. "

What is Rheumatology?

Rheumatology is the medical specialty that is concerned with arthritis and other diseases of inflammation. Inflammation can occur anywhere in the body, but it is most common in the joints and connective tissues. Arthritis, which occurs in the joints, is also a very common condition, so rheumatology is strongly associated with joint care. But rheumatology is about more that just arthritis. Other conditions that a rheumatologist might treat include:

Lupus, a chronic inflammatory disease
Ankylosing spondylitis, inflammation at the base of the spine
Sjogren's syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that stops production of tears and saliva
Fibromyalgia, a disorder causing widespread, chronic pain and fatigue

Pediatric rheumatologists are doctors that specialize in treating inflammatory diseases in children. Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other inflammatory diseases can begin even in childhood, and can cause a unique set of problems for active and growing children.

Rheumatologists use patient symptoms as well as lab tests and imaging tests such as MRIs to diagnose disease. Treatment varies widely depending on the diagnosis, but it may include physiotherapy (to improve motion, ability, and function) or medications. Commonly prescribed medications include anti-inflammatories such as NSAIDS (e.g. Tylenol, Ibuprofen) and steroids, or immune system suppressants such as methotrexate and TNF inhibitor medications (e.g. Enbrel, Humira). The goal is always to increase the patient's ability to move without pain and to reduce the need for future treatment.
