"Renee is INCREDIBLE. She started at the Orem Midwife Group in early 2018 and helped deliver my baby in March. I wanted a natural hospital birth, and got lucky enough to have Renee meet with me for my appointments and be at delivery. She has previous experience with at-home deliveries, so I knew that she was perfect for us. She was easy to talk to and supported me fully. When it finally came down to the birth we had some complications but she and the attending midwife Tina Nackos were able to help preserve some of my wishes while making sure the baby and I were safe. I would 100% recommend her and the Orem Midwife Group. I felt like angels were attending my birth! And, for the record, she has LONG fingers. Which makes for more comfortable cervical checks and membrane sweeps. "

"I visited Dr. Julie King to have a pap and renew my IUD and I could not have been more impressed by Dr. Julie King and her staff. Dr. King was so sweet and so attentive you could really tell that she cares about her patients and makes you feel so comfortable talking to her about your concerns. The front desk staff and all of the nurses and MA's were also very lovely. The facility at University of Utah in Murray was clean and had all the newest medical technology. Over-all the best Dr's office experience I've ever had. "

What is Midwifery?

Midwifery is a practice that provides a broad range of reproductive, sexual, and primary care services. While historically the term midwife has referred to a woman who assisted during pregnancies and childbirth, midwives today offer gynecological, preconception, prenatal, and postpartum care, as well as care for newborn infants. In 2012, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) acknowledged midwives can also provide services for gender non-conforming and transgender individuals. Midwives may undergo medical training and licensing to become certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) or certified midwives. In 2019, about 1 in 10 of US births were attended by a CNM or certified midwife. Midwives may provide care in a hospital, private birth center, or in-home setting. Frequent midwifery treatments and services include, but are not limited to:

Family planning and contraception
Labor and delivery, including monitoring labor progress and aiding throughout the delivery process
Postpartum services
Education, such as classes or seminars for expectant mothers on lactation (breastfeeding)
Gynecologic exams and infection treatment
Menopausal and premenopausal treatment
Newborn infant care

While certified nurse midwives may attend deliveries within a hospital team and setting, other midwives typically operate apart from doctors. If a pregnant individual expects delivery complications, it is advised they receive treatment from a doctor, or only visit a midwife as supplementary care to clinical services. Midwives may collaborate with obstetricians, gynecologists, neonatal specialists and nurses, perinatologists, physical therapists, nurses, and dietitians.
