Therapists - Desoto, TX

"This is a very long review because I need to shed light here so that others don't fall into this mans trap and waste valuable time and money. Unfortunately, I must agree with Mary and I really didn't want her to be right but she was. However, we gave Dr. Gregory the benefit of the doubt and made an appt anyways, a couple actually. I will say he is very well educated in his profession but lacks the compassion and empathy that every therapist should have when going into counseling. Your therapist office should be your safe place, a place you can freely and openly express yourself and what you're going through. Dr. Gregory is not a great couples counselor and very likely not an individually one either. He cares more about proving how "smart" he is and that he knows everything when he doesn't even know what brings you in. He treats you like every other couple with his textbook approach instead of listening twice and speaking once. Not every couple is the same with the same issues. Couples most definitely stay away. I understand painting a picture or giving a little bit more information about yourself prior or even at the 1st appt but the initial appt and by the second surly he should have an idea or have scratch the surface of what brings you in. He does not. He talked a lot about his personal achievements and his personal perspective on things that had nothing to do with what brought us in. He had no clue what we needed or wanted to work on/toward. He cared more about getting his point across on every letter starting from A to Z, even if you didn't need it. We wanted Christian counseling and he raved about being a "pastoral counselor"...that was not seen. He lacked patience and compassion for his own clients feelings. I raised my hand to speak and he immediately got defensive and attacked me, saying I "interrupted him". I honestly thought he was done talking at that point, but hard to say because he takes a short pause and starts up again (Something my husband notice). He was very upset and didnt care what I was saying, just attacked me and talked down to me because I "interrupted him". You could see he was clearly upset and took it very personal. I simply wanted to discuss a conflict my husband and I had had recently and gain clarity from my husband on it while Dr. Gregory just listen and THEN offered insight. Dr. Gregory seems to care more about getting his point across and talking the whole time. He is a terrible terrible listener and takes things very personal when you begin to speak. I feel really bad for anyone who waste their time and money seeing him. He even proceed to have a text war with me afterward in trying to justify his behavior and actions. Deflecting and backtracking his words. Then tried to bring up issues he assumed I had with my father from giving him a 10 second run down of my childhood(since that was all the time he gave me to speak on it). Which I do not have, my father and I have a great relationship (lol) it was actually really sad that a very well educated, clearly just book smart gentlemen like himself could be so clueless to his own narcissism. The fact he got defensive and rude and asked me to leave his office while he just spoke to my husband because quite frankly I got sick of listening to him do all the talking and we were wasting time and money. He knew nothing about our issues or what we needed. He should take these reviews under immense consideration and reflect on himself. You can have all the education in the world to be a therapist/counselor by state license standards but lacking compassion and the ability to listen before you speak and show empathy/patience to your client should be 1st. He needs to self reflect and make some changes himself by listening and taking to heart his clients feedback. This is why he can't keep clients that reach out to him on their own. He very well may just be the better of the EAP counselors out there. The ones assigned to you by your job. Dr. Gregory, maybe go sit on your colleagues couch yourself before scheduling another couples appt."
