Physiatrist - Pittsburgh, PA

"I saw Dr. Stone in May due to debilitating, chronic back pain from my spine due to a bulging disc in the lumbar. Him being 25 minutes late to the first appointment of the day wasn’t an ideal start. As soon as he entered the room, he was trying to rush my appointment. I wanted my findings from the X Rays, CT scan, and MRI to be explained to me. It was like pulling teeth to get him to answer my medical questions. It was so bizarre how he’d try to deflect and simply not answer some of my questions or worse respond with, “That doesn’t matter” or “You know you should go to medical school if you want to ask those types of questions.” He rushed my physical assessment, was impatient when I did not reply/move within one second, and just didn’t even bother doing several positions for my left hip because “Oh well the wall is there,” instead of asking me to change direction on the exam table. Somehow this appointment got worse when it became clear he was being blatantly sexist. I had difficulty sitting due to my pain and simply asked if I could stand after the assessment instead of sitting. He was sitting at that time and looked so uncomfortable that I dared to ask that. He replied “Well then I’ll just talk to your husband!” He angled his body away from me and started explaining things to my husband in the corner of the room! He repeatedly would look at my husband when talking and ignore me. He continued saying incredibly insulting things to me during this time. Keep in mind he was rushing and talking a mile a minute. After he explained something and asked if I understood, he only gave me one second before dismissively saying “Oh your husband will understand for you.” I am perfectly lucid, present, and have more than two brain cells. When he was discussing physical therapy and the treatment length he made some disturbing comments. He said anyone who takes 6 or more weeks in PT is in “the shallow gene pool.” He wasn’t saying I was part of that group but several times made that comment about people in PT. This was the most bizarre and insulting appointment I’ve ever had in my life and sadly not one bit of this review is exaggerated. "
