Ms. Melissa Jackson works as a counseling specialist in Midwest City, OK.

"Ms Jackson and I had an initial call on 2/21 and set an appointment for 2/27. In this call I provided insurance details and she advised she would run everything and contact me confirming costs. She also advised I would receive a text confirmation with the address and time the day before our appointment. On 2/26 I hadn’t received anything and tried contacting her a few times to no avail. I called again on 3/5 and 3/7, no response. I again called on 3/12 and Ms Jackson advised that she had a death in her family, apologized for the inconvenience and we set another appointment for 3/19 at 5:30pm. In this call she advised that she had yet to verify insurance but would have it sorted by our appointment. She also provided the location for our appointment. On the day of the appointment, I arrived at her office at 5:17pm but the doors were locked. I waited till 5:34pm then again tried calling her and left a voice message. To date I have yet to receive any response from Ms. Jackson. This process with her has been unprofessional and a waste of my time. While I sympathize with her loss, Ms.Jackson has not communicated any cancellations and not treated this process the way it should. "

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a type of professional guidance for handling problems in life. There are many types of counselors, and they serve an incredibly wide variety of people with all kinds of different needs. There are general counselors, marriage and family counselors, school and student counselors, career and vocational counselors, religious counselors, and gerontological counselors specifically for the elderly.

In all cases, counseling works when the client and the counselor talk to each other and develop a trusting relationship. The counselor listens respectfully to the client's problems. Then the two together work on identifying goals, increasing coping skills to overcome any troubles, and improving useful skills such as communication. The goals of counseling will be different for each person, but generally they include an increased sense of well being, decreased distress and anxiety, resolved crisis, and increased ability and function in daily life.
