"My wife and I came to Tyler because we have a hard time communicating. We at first dove into "when I did this, she did that and that was wrong" and her responding "Well, he shouldn't have done that in the first place". With previous marriage counseling we stayed at that surface level, almost asking for a ref for every fight. This method did not help us fix what was really broken. Tyler would not entertain that mentality and is having us look deeper at what we feel and working on a deeper level of communicating, not just telling one of us we are right. Highly recommend, especially for those couples where one is neurodivergent (myself) and the other is not (wife)."

"I saw her for 1 and a half sessions. The first one went great. The second one she was hostile, suspicious and rude in attitude at the outset despite nothing changing inbetween. As a reference, I have been to other therapists for extended time whom have been helpful, wonderful and supportive. She was not, flipping between great and awful between first and second sessions. Needless to say, that second session was my last. I would advise passing on this one and seeking a more apt therapist."

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a type of professional guidance for handling problems in life. There are many types of counselors, and they serve an incredibly wide variety of people with all kinds of different needs. There are general counselors, marriage and family counselors, school and student counselors, career and vocational counselors, religious counselors, and gerontological counselors specifically for the elderly.

In all cases, counseling works when the client and the counselor talk to each other and develop a trusting relationship. The counselor listens respectfully to the client's problems. Then the two together work on identifying goals, increasing coping skills to overcome any troubles, and improving useful skills such as communication. The goals of counseling will be different for each person, but generally they include an increased sense of well being, decreased distress and anxiety, resolved crisis, and increased ability and function in daily life.
