Cardiologists - Santa Fe, NM

"Dr. Mansfield is not a Cardiologist that I would recommend to anyone. As a medical Social Worker, I have worked directly with many specialists, and had the pleasure of working with the finest doctors in the country, professionally and personally. I would give him NO stars if I could. He is unremarkable in his skills. He evaluated my cardiac tests five years earlier, and felt that tests, including a standard echo or cardiac enzymes, was not required. Although I reported chest pain, short of breath, racing heart all the time, edema and blood oxygen stays about 92 - (even before I came to a high elevation). I have a MCTD and maintain a healthy lifestyle so my disease continues to be stable. He dismissed my illness as not real in his notes, negating the other specialists I have seen for years, who have done their job, their tests, for years, because he did not want to "ignore" the symptoms of the woman with MCTD heart symptoms, however, he could paint me as a crazy person in his notes, and then ignore my symptoms and say that he didn't see any of them. ( How do you see chest pain, palpitations, tachycardia when it's not going on? I guess you have to listen to your patient, trust them, and then move forward. If I was a man, He would not have ignored this. If I was a White Man, I might have been immediately hospitalized in the ICU. (This is not a desire but a ironical truth.) I don't think I have an emergent situation. I think that I do have some connective tissue disease issue going on with my heart, but that is neither here or there. Any standard of care would be to get an echo to evaluate and compare to the echo from five years ago. But hey, I am not a doctor. I just remember learning about comparing stuff in kindergarten. He is unremarkable in his evaluation. He is unremarkable in his communication. He is unremarkable in his ability to listen to his patient. What he is able to do, is to determine the wellness of an individual based on what he sees although he even refused to look at pictures of my leg and face edema which I had on my phone, because I did not have edema on the day of the visit. All my blood work ruled out kidney disease for my edema so my primary told me to go to a cardiologist... in which he told me "I am not a primary, to evaluate your edema". (I am so confused). What's more, is Doctor Mansfield wrote his after visit summary with the old school mentality that the patient isn't going to see the notes. The notes were verbally transcribed so it was typed from his tone of voice as well. The amount of cultural and sexist judgements is apparent in his medical notes and is apparent to a trained person such as myself. In his mind, he was writing doctor code for the HLF.(Hysterical Latin Female. Hey Doctor, We know what that is... and you are part of the white racist men who made up that term. Stop using it.) He basically said do not listen to the patient's report of her symptoms because I don't SEE anything wrong with the person in front of me. Hispanic females do not want to go to the doctor because we don't LOOK sick (or old). And that is so racist that I can't even explain it to him. This is why, when a Person of color goes to the doctor, even when they are so sick, they are all dressed up, with makeup and hair done. We don't want people judging us. Some White doctors use slant conversations in their notes to "heads up" other doctors, in order to persuade how to treat a patient in the future, to support the narrative they have created with their bias. Then you wonder, "why is this brand new doctor looking at me sideways and behaving this way towards me". Well... the whole cultural bias in the medical field is real. As someone who read their notes regularly as a social worker, heard them talk about patients, regularly, and had them use the terms they used, to describe patients, based on being a woman, being Hispanic/POC/minority, or being emotional. They gaslight women who are minorities. DO NOT GO to this doctor. He is exactly what is wrong with the medical profession. Dr. Mansfield behaved annoyed that I went to the cardiologist, although I was referred by my primary right before I moved to New Mexico, in May. I changed insurance, and made the appointment. So what? Why is this a problem for him? I have a PPO. Does he need to have his hand held by a primary care physician? Should I have a hall pass to his office for him to do his job? Does he not know how to order basic cardiac tests, like a stress test, or an echo on a 50 year old woman with low oxygen with exertion? Seems like a problem with his knowledge on cardiology. I don't know. Or he is racist and sexist and as he stated in his notes over and over, He Saw me and didn't see a problem. He couldn't be bothered to evaluate my heart, but in the notes, he evaluated my life and he negated other specialists' findings. Again, without any knowledge, tests or information. I think this was to support his lack of his evaluation. Then out of nowhere, he threw up a very dangerous clot disorder that I could have, which he did not mention to me in the visit, in the notes, but this was a CYA? Are you for real? Dr Mansfield- "Go see a pulmonologist, your heart is fine." (Whispered in my notes -Oh but she has stage one something and well that's nothing.... (even though that causes blood oxygen levels to drop and can cause her symptoms too) and "Psst, she might have a dangerous lung blood clot disorder, don't tell her...") What a misogynist! - And why? well He asked me about my living situation, and apparently, me being a woman who lives with her boyfriend is not good. He had to marry me to my boyfriend. I thought I saw some judgement from his face, when I said I moved with my boyfriend to New Mexico, but he actually reported in his notes all this stuff about my Husband. Wow. The audacity. I am not married and that is a choice. If he spent half as much time on my weakening valves (all from tests), my racing heart issue (Normal resting is about 110), blood oxygen when I am active dropping below 90, dizziness, - hey, I would been fine with him being a judgmental old man, because who cares, if he is making sure I don't die. (which is all I want. To make sure that my genetics aren't mixing with my MCTD and I am not going to just drop dead). So Like I said, he is not the cardiologist I would recommend for ANYONE. And if you have read this entire post, know, I rarely write reviews on Doctors. You have to show a blatant lack of respect for humanity for me to bother with a review. I wouldn't let him treat my cat for worms. I would leave Aetna over this doctor. He needs to be removed from their insurance before he kills someone... (Although we now know, we have no idea, when doctors have serious malpractice issues, thanks to the Dr. Death series. We also know that the Doctor review websites are paid for by the doctors to get good reviews.) Unremarkably.
