"Dr. Shoen is a very greedy, petty, and spineless doctor who only cares about money. This guy will charge you for breathing the air in his waiting room. I went to Dr. Shoen for two issues. One was cubital tunnel syndrome on my left hand and carpal tunnel on my right. During my initial visit he examined both arms and hands. He decided for the right hand to give me soft splint/wrist support.Then he sent me for EMG testing for both arms and hands. The results of the EMG showed that the cubital tunnel syndrome on my left arm was bad enough that surgery should be performed. The right side wasn't as bad so we both agreed to do the surgery for cubital tunnel right away and come back to the right side later. I had the surgery done 2 weeks later and went back to his office as directed for a follow up visit which was included in the treatment plan. The splint was removed and Dr. Shoen came in to check out the wound and ask me how I was. While he was looking at the post surgery area, I told him that my right side still hurt and the sprint wasn't very effective. I asked if he though we should take further action. He examined my right arm and hand and recommended physical therapy and to come back another time for a follow up. Up until now I had a very good experience at his office and with his services. Two weeks later I received a bill from Dr. Shoen for an office visit. When I called to ask why I was being charged for a postoperative visit I was told it was because during the visit I “asked” about my OTHER hand. Since that was not part of the post-op visit related to the cubital surgery I was being charged an office visit and Copay. I had no idea inquiring about something he already treated would turn into another bill. I simply asked a question related to my first visit and told him the splint he gave me was ineffective and what else might we do up to and including surgery. Dr. Shoen is a very greedy petty and spineless doctor. I think it was very sneaky and underhanded that he billed me behind my back without having the decency to tell me that there would be a charge. He could have at least told me to come back for another visit for questions related to the other hand. I have been to many doctors in my lifetime and none have every pulled a stunt like this. He wouldn't even accept the money my insurance paid him and call it even, He was fiending for the extra money. In the end I gave him his co-pay for his 5 minutes of “extra attention” and decided to get my record and take my business elsewhere. Im sure I am only a drop in the bucket and I will not be missed but my review will live on. The devil is in the details. "
