Family Medicine practitioners - Clayton, GA

"I feel compelled to write this review as Dr. Dowis's practice in Dahlonega, GA includes billing copays based on why the patient is being seen. Dr. Dowis is my primary care physician and my copay is 35.00. Unknown to me, Dr. Dowis billed my insurance for two different visits as "urgent care". Dr. Dowis then subsequently billed me for additional money. When I received a 'collection' notice, I called the office and was told that because I sought treatment for a painful shoulder, the visit was considered 'urgent care' (it was NOT urgent), and I needed to now pay more. I tried to reach the doctor via voicemail or email, and I was told there was no way to reach the doctor. So, I'm not sure what's going on there, other than shady billing and/or lying to patients up front and then billing them later for more money. I will NOT be returning to this practice and I'm very disappointed that the office staff would not let me leave any kind of message for the doctor. "
