Dentists - Austell, GA

"I do not recommend this dentist. Although she was kind in how she spoke to me, the general manipulation by her and possibly Austell Smiles as a whole is something to avoid. I first went as a new patient a month ago. They did a special spit test and checked my gums to say I have gingivitis, something no prior dentists have ever diagnosed me with. She recommended a special advanced deep cleaning for me that was not covered by my insurance, totaling $1200. I left that day to try to figure out how I could pay for this soon. A month later I scheduled another appointment here and requested on the phone just a regular cleaning for now. During the month, I began flossing daily religiously for the first time in my life. After arriving for my appointment, then I was informed I was scheduled not for a regular cleaning but for the advanced cleaning and that I could not get a regular cleaning because of the dentist’s recommendation. I asked to have my gums reevaluated because of my new flossing consistency. The reevaluation showed that many of my gums had improved in just a month. Despite this, they all affirmed that I could only have the advanced cleaning. Although I can decline this, they said they cannot do a regular cleaning on me because it would be considered “subpar” care and would put their licenses at risk. They then went on to say that my gums will continue to get worse (in spite of improvement in just one month) and that it could be dangerous to not do the expensive deep cleaning. In the end, I told them I cannot afford the deep cleaning and they refused to do the regular one. Apparently no cleaning is better than performing a basic cleaning on me for now. My experience at this office shows me that Austell Smiles does not believe in patient choice, and will do whatever it takes to get more money from you. Now I have zero confidence in their ability to even diagnose gingivitis because of this experience. Because it makes me feel as if the whole thing was a ploy to upcharge and make more money off of us. It may not be this dentist specifically who treats patient’s like this always, it could be the business as a whole that is pushing these advanced cleanings. TLDR: Office will recommend advanced cleanings that are more expensive despite noticeable improvement. They would rather not perform a cleaning at all on you than do a basic one if you decline deep cleaning. "
