"Just in it for the $$$ and the money is BIG. He is not interested in you or your children. He is interested in referrals. His bread and butter is finding for the husband. In my case, he warned me in the office that my ex-husband and his new wife were on an all out campaign to turn my children against me. He said my ex suffers from delusions of persecution and paranoia. NONE of that appeared in his evaluation which absolutely slammed me. I later found out that my ex, a financial planner, had made a side deal with him to funnel clients to him (because when people plan to divorce, they often call their financial planner...he offered to give him the inside scoop, and he accepted). He did not disclose this arrangement during the proceedings. He is totally unethical. If you are the mom, DO NOT agree to allow him to evaluate your case. Find ANYONE else. Ultimately, my ex turned my daughter against me, she ran away, and now is an emotional mess. Dr. R saw all of this coming and still recommended her father for custody because of their "deal." DISGUSTING! He destroyed our lives. I'm sure most of the 5 star ratings are from men."

"She sent an email instructing me to call her office, only to not return any calls. When I sent a follow-up email to say that her office never returned calls, I received a call from someone named Alex, who said Michele Turley was not taking any more clients. I understand that a practitioner can accept whomever they want, but there are standards that should be followed, such as never tell someone to call, then not return their call, then tell them you are not taking anymore clients. This is both misleading and unprofessional."

What is Psychology?

Psychologists are not medical doctors, but they are important workers in the mental health field. A psychologist studies the way people feel and think, as well as how thoughts and feelings change the way people act. When psychologists work with patients directly to help them feel better, they practice clinical psychology. Clinical psychologists diagnose mental health disorders and provide treatment in the form of therapy.

A clinical psychologist might work with individuals, families, groups, or organizations. They may see people who are struggling to work through difficult circumstances, trying to overcome bad habits or patterns in their lives, recovering from a brain injury, or suffering from mental illness such as depression.

Clinical psychologists are skilled assessors. Through talking to their patients they can: (1) identify which thoughts or feelings are causing the problems in their patient's life, (2) help their patient acknowledge what emotional strengths they bring to face those problems, and (3) make plans for treatment.

Treatment varies widely depending on the patient's problems and the psychologist's areas of expertise. There hundreds of recognized modes of therapy; in addition, a patient may need to see a psychiatrist (medical doctor) for medication treatment. Whichever therapies a psychologist uses, the goal is to help patients see areas in their life where their thoughts or feelings are holding them back and causing distress. Through therapy, psychologists can encourage their patients to develop new ways to adapt so that they can lead happier lives.
