"I am writing to formally complain about the misdiagnosis and substandard care my child received from Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel, MD, on June 21, 2024. On this date, my child was injured while playing soccer at school, resulting in significant shoulder pain. Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel examined my child briefly and reviewed an X-ray, concluding that there were no fractures. He advised us to go home and rest, recommending a simple sling. However, when Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel touched my son's shoulder, he screamed and cried loudly, a clear sign of a possible clavicle fracture. Despite this reaction, the initial nurse only noted pain above his chest, and the X-ray was taken near the humerus, not the collarbone. Despite Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel's assurance, my child's pain persisted and even worsened, making it difficult for him to find comfort, even when lying down. Concerned about the ongoing pain, we sought a second opinion at another hospital. The second physician carefully examined my son's arm and shoulder, identifying the exact location of his pain. Additional X-rays were taken, focusing on the clavicle area, leading to the correct diagnosis of a clavicle fracture, which Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel missed. The second physician provided clear instructions for proper care and precautions necessary for my child's recovery, which we should have received initially. The initial misdiagnosis caused my child unnecessary suffering and delayed proper treatment. I strongly advise against visiting the Golden State Orthopedics & Spine and seeing Dr. Jeffrey Scott Kanel due to the substandard care and significant oversight in diagnosing my child's injury. Please consider seeking treatment elsewhere."
