I had seen Tor for a few sessions, and I was happy with how empowering the sessions were at first. I even recommended my friend to go with him, which she did. After the initial sessions of being comfortable and feeling empowered, there was a shift in Tor. He was no longer uplifting. It was quite the opposite- he put down my friend and I. We had a routine of talking to each other after sessions because we felt so emotionally beat up. It was horrible, but I trusted him to a fault. My depression got drastically worse. My friend dropped him as a therapist long before I did. He even apologized to me for "being a bad therapist to me." However, nothing changed. He is a bully and that felt comfortable to me. I finally got rid of him as a therapist after my friends pointed out in black in white how manipulative he was to me. The time when it was obvious to them was when Tor never showed up to one of our sessions. He texted me AFTER we were supposed to meet to ask to reschedule for the next day because he double booked. I told him it would be better if we met next week since I was out of town, and it would be hard to change my whole day for a session with him. He told me, "If you don't want to change, that's on you. I can't force you to come to session for you to prioritize your mental health." He continued on with this point for a few text exchanges until I agreed to see him the next day. I changed my itinerary to see him after he stood me up. Although it wasn't the first time he played power games with me, it was when it clicked to me that Tor is a bully. My friend saw it immediately. I wish I had too.
