In my experience Steve Hoekstra convinced me he was caring and compassionate, gained my trust, then broke that trust by hurting me in my deepest wound. He proved to be highly unprofessional, and lacked clear boundaries. For example, as a college age female he convinced me that my family of origin did not provide enough comfort and took it upon himself to fill that role through very close, lengthy hugs. His "comfort" and inauthentic "care" was a way to draw me in, gain my trust, then break trust in a way that was deeply painful and traumatic for me. He originallu told me I had PTSD but what happened in his office was more traumatic than what I originally came in for. Shortly after this occurred he went on leave for several weeks, and I am unable to step foot in a therapy office again. Because of this I can't recommend him, but I can say that he might be ok for men's issues.
