My teen/ recently turned adult daughter inquired with Dr. Howard about completing a form for an emotional support animal (ESA). As she starts college in the Fall and her school told her to have her therapist to complete an form for this purpose. In Dr. Howard’s response, she added “ I would hope you were not attempting to use me for your own gain when you haven't attended therapy with me since January. I hope that our therapeutic relationship was better than this (my daughter name)”. Regardless if Dr. Howard was unable to complete the form and has not had a session with my daughter since January, my daughter was following the instructions for he college and simply was asking about the form. Just because a person is a licensed provider does not give your the right to be unkind, discourteous, and unprofessional. She missed the point of the email and made it personal. Her communication made my daughter very uncomfortable and was offensive.
I took my child to her for three month and she didn’t provide any real useful feedback. She didn’t do any real assessment/diagnosis just speculation and suggestions. I had hope that she would provide some coping strategies for my child (teenager), which never happened. I eventually realized we weren’t getting anywhere and stopped going. I would go elsewhere for a more professional assessment and assistance.
