I'm so disappointed and shocked at the utter lack of concern Dr. Ruwani Gunawardane has for me, her patient, and my overall health. I've being seeing Dr. RG since Dec 2018, she diagnosed me with MS. At the time I started seeing her I already had a long history, since childhood, of restless syndrome. This syndrome prevents the inflicted from sleeping. Chronic inability to sleep has serious negative effects to the persons overall health. It negatively effects cardiovascular, emotional, neurological, immune system, hormonal, and the day to day quality of life of the person. You would think Dr. RG would be concerned about this debilitating disease and do her best to ensure the patient(me) does not go without their medication. Sadly this is not true for Dr. RG. Not only was she apathetic about the fact I went without my medication due to my prescription refill request not being filled in a timely manner by her office staff, she dismissed my suffering by telling me "people make mistakes" meaning her staff. She proceeded to point out that she wasn't the original dr. who prescribed the medication, insinuating she did not have responsibility for it. I went for 4 days without the medication and consequently without sleep. I missed work for 4 days and endured and suffered through the sleep deprivation symptoms and effects for 7 days…. needlessly. When I expressed my concern and unhappiness about not get my medication prescription refilled, for the second time, she was not only apathetic to my suffering but she became defensive. In additional to her utter lack of concern for me they charged me $60 missed appointment fee for missing an appointment due to not be able to sleep for 4 days. I had never missed an appointment before. Dr. RGs blatant disregard for me and my health utterly shocked me to the core, and really surprised me. How can a dr. provide good care if they lack empathy and sympathy for their patients? The answer is they can't. My health and wellbeing IS important no matter who initially prescribed the medication. Dr. RG has a responsibility as a doctor to be concerned I went without important medication for as long as I did and empathetic and sympathetic to my suffering and loss of work. But what she did was make excuses for her negligent employee, said she wasn't the dr. who prescribed the medication, blamed it on the logistic of the pharmacy and the cost of the infusion nurse. Not once did she apologize or say she would take steps to ensure the prescription refill issue wouldn't happen again. I knew right then she did not care about me or my health what so ever. I now question whether I really have MS. Looking at the way she operates I would bet 99% of the people who walk through her door are diagnosed with MS....whether they "really" have it is questionable. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a health care professional.
