Dr. Robert David Skala, DO

I've been seeing Dr. Bob Skala since he moved back to Alaska.  He has gotten my diabetes under control which hasn't happened  since I was diagnosed back in the 90's.  The date of service is misleading since I have been a patient of his from sometime back in the mid 2000's.  If I remember correctly 2003 or so.

He keeps up with all the lipid and diabetic information which is out there.  He is also one of the leaders of diabetic care here in Alaska.  Without his knowledge and insight, I probably would have suffered from all the other illnesses diabetes can cause.  Most recently, I've suffered a huge degradation of my kidney function and he had me switch my medications so not to have it progress, and he had me see a specialist.  After seeing the specialist, I was told that Dr. Bob has taken all the right steps and made all the right changes and he would not make any changes to the protocol I was put on.  Since this time, which was about 1.5 years ago, my kidney function has regained about 50%.......and I'm out of the danger of going into renal failure in the very near future (I was told if it kept progressing as it was, I'd be on dialysis within a year).

Of course, you do have to listen and follow his suggestions, but he is not pushy, and is willing to work with each individual as to their needs and "dis-likes" like taking shots of insulin.  

As a family doctor, I've referred many of my friends and co-workers to his practice and every one of them has been very happy with him.......which can be a downer for me since his schedule has filled up and it has been getting harder to get an appointment scheduled for the same day you called (but he will make an opening for emergencies).....but this just goes to prove to me that I'm not the only one who thinks that he is a great doctor.

His staff is also very friendly and nice.  I've never had a bad experience with anyone in his office........which says a lot!
