Ms. Gould is a great therapist. She is compassionate and empathetic and really helped to believe in myself again and to get my life going in the right direction. She helped me face issues with my husband when I found out he was gay, with my teenage son who was using drugs and the loss of my job. I don't know what I would have done with her support, insight and compassion. She helped me to learn how to cope with issues on my own. I have definitely taken away from our sessions practical skills that I can use today on my own. Ms. Gould was always there for me, even at times when I would have thought I wouldn't get a hold of her she often returned my calls at odd hours and talked with me and then never charged me for the calls. I have never come across another therapist wiling to do this. She is a gem.
For nice little problems. If it can't be resolved with cute little aphorisms taped to your bathroom mirror with a little bit of cheerleading thrown in for moral support, your problem isn't nice enough for Karen. And, OMG, don't ever call her after hours! I think I went over my quota (3 calls in 1-1/2 years), and that is definitely not nice. You may not get any help, but you will get a generic little email (very nice) that may or may not offer you any helpful advice -- besides "be sure you take your pills!" (the unspoken corollary being that if you had you wouldn't be bothering her after hours like this. . . ) Like this: On 2/7/2013 6:27 PM, Karen Gould-LMHC wrote: > Hi Sue, > This is rotten luck-the joys of home ownership-but its not the worst thing you have ever been through > in your life or frankly even this year! I could be sent to jail for this, my house can be condemned, etc. . . I got no answer. Maybe the silence meant I should have just taken more pills. . . P.S. I guess there was no "need be to talk on the phone or make another "appt," because there was no "Phone Call," either. Just the cheerleading: "This will work out-it will-you can do it" for my not-so-nice problem.
