I have had severe RLS for 20 plus years and never able to find a doctor that really understands my unique challenges with this disease. Dr. Andy took a personal interest and got me on to the right medication and lifestyle adjustments to significantly improve my condition.

I have been a patient of Dr. Berkowski for a little over a year. After working with several “sleep doctors” (pulmonologists who saw patients with sleep disorders on the side), I went on a quest to find a physician who actually had a specific interest/specialty in sleep (or lack thereof). While scouring the website of the Restless Leg Syndrome Foundation, I kept seeing Dr. Berkowski’s name; it appeared as though he was a frequent symposium speaker and a leader in research about restless legs. As someone with sleep apnea, as well as augmentation from the Pramipexole I had been taking for years for restless legs, I needed a doctor who specialized in sleep disorders. A quick Google search located him here in Michigan, in my own backyard. The last year with Dr. Berkowski has been life-changing. He helped me wean off of Pramipexole to Pregabalin, which has proved to be a much more effective drug for me with no discernible side effects. He has helped me to understand my body’s innate sleep schedule preferences and to honor them. He has guided me through the journey from absolute sleep deprivation to nights of restorative sleep. He is a listener. He is patient. He was willing to try relentlessly to help me find what my body needed to be able to sleep. He is absolutely not a “one size fits all” specialist. He completely understands that sleep disturbances are as complex and unique as the people who experience them. He is a great communicator; he answers phone calls, texts, ex-mails and messages through his portal promptly. I have always been able to set up a Telehealth appointment quickly — usually within 24 hours. The fact that his entire practice is based on a Telehealth model means that there are is no office waiting time and no insurance red tape. I am a new person because of his care and concern!
