 The accident involved explosives that essentially blew up the primary hand. My son was ambulance routed to University of Michigan where we met Dr. Lien. The care and assessment of the damage was incredible; Dr. Lien reconstructed the remains of the hand and our outcome was the best outcome in a worse case scenario. Dr. Lien's reconstruction took many hours; a plate in the wrist; the removal of three fingers and half a thumb all of which were indistinguishable post explosion. What he was able to accomplish with such extensive damage was amazing. He reconstructed the pinky to become an assist for picking things up. The half thumb and pinky work together to grasp things. The repairs he did to the nerves were downright miraculous; he wasn't sure there would be any feeling and he was always honest about that so when feeling was detected we rejoiced. I can honestly say every follow up appointment was a blessing. This man has skills and if I ever need anything hand related done he will be my go to Dr.
