This counselor isn't able to "diagnose" a lot of things (especially what I had researched and felt might fit me) and felt because I had a suggestion of what my life experience may have been explained by, she felt I was "seeking a specific diagnosis" when I was simply interested in understanding myself just like someone who has symptoms of anything else would. You have symptoms of a physical illness, you seek a diagnosis and inform yourself on it... right? I was invalidated and dismissed.  She also had the misconception that "If you were an autistic client of mine you would have had a meltdown over the change in appointment time" or something along those lines. It's made me avoid therapy since to be honest. and I'm only writing thing now because I have spoken about this with other professionals who agree that the generalizations and stereotyping was not okay. I HOPE this person researches Autism and different types of neurodivergences to provide better care because I won't say there isn't potential here. We had a few good sessions.
