Jason was my counselor for a couple of months. He did listen to me while I discussed my issues, but provided me with very little therapeutic insight during each visit. I have issues with anxiety and depression, which is what I was seeking counseling for. I did not realize how ineffective his counseling was until I gave up on him and found a much more competent counselor, who provides me with much greater help as well as coping strategies to get me through stressful moments in my life when they occur. He is a nice young man. He will sit there and listen to you. But I did not find my sessions with him very productive. There are a lot of counselors in the area. I would suggest you seek counseling with someone else.
I strongly suggest you find a different counselor. Jason does not have put his clients first. I was dealing with serious trauma. I recently learned that I had epilepsy, and that brain surgery was necessary. Leading up to my surgery--as well as post surgery--Jason canceled a few very needed appointments that I had with him He canceled these merely a hours before they were supposed to take place. Afterwards, he never tried to reschedule me as soon as he could. I had to wait at least a full week to see him after the cancellation. He never even thought to apologize to me when I expressed frustration regarding this matter. In fact, when he saw that I was frustrated, he actually sent me a condescending text message in response. What a horrible and unprofessional thing for someone who is supposed to be a counselor to do. Investing my time with Jason prevented me from finding a more competent and responsible and caring counselor for months at the time of my life when I needed counseling the most. I now have a counselor who is much more professional, empathetic, cares much more for my well-being. She has never canceled an appointment on me and, ultimately, is much more effective in her practice. Finally, he never made me aware that, due to the fact that I hit my maximum out-of-pocket, that my appointments were actually free for me. He took my co-pays for 3 months. After I brought this to his attention, he did reimburse me for all of them. However, if I never mentioned it to him, it is doubtful that I would have ever seen that money again. As a person, he is a nice guy. However, counseling does not seem to be his main priority. In my experience, he does not seem passionate, or recognize the importance of being a dedicated counselor. Any counselor who doesn't have empathy for the needs of a client preparing and recovering from brain surgery is one that is not worth seeing. If you are in a great need of therapy, I strongly recommend that you find a different counselor.
