Miss Ibtissem Rekik, MS, CCC-SLP

The significance of the Speech Language Pathologist's role lies in their ability to be catalysts for positive change in individuals' lives. As a registered nurse, I have witnessed her ability to work with the older population with compassion, understanding their unique needs with dysphagia or chronic cough issues.  Miss Ibtissem Rekik is an expert in how the larynx (voice box) and throat muscles work during swallowing. She meets with family members and provides education so that there is a strong understanding of why chronic cough or swallowing issues are occurring.  She is making a positive contribution in the lives of people that are fortunate to have her for SLP therapy. 

It is definitely a pleasure to be seen by such a professional therapist as Ms Rekik. She is very open in communicating my vocal needs and raspiness problems as a choral singer. She comes across as I can do this with her . She is willing to explore the notes and pitches. She is so natural, she explains it very well. She gives me a balance of what I like which is music. 

We have worked on my breathy and crackly voice. My speech therapist assisted me with strengthening the closure of my Vocal folds. She had me produce sounds, phrases and sentences to feel the vibrations of my vocal folds. She was prompt and consistent. Although I knew that what caused it is the stroke, she researched and came back to me with explanations and physician referral.She was thorough and explained things that she feels to her best knowledge what was causing my persistent problem since the stroke. 

I am very fond of her. She treats me for my chronic and severe apraxia of speech.  She is methodical, gentle and nice. 

I have known Ms. Rekik for almost a year treating my son with special needs. I am super happy with her services. She helped my son express himself better from a socio-pragmatic view point. I Highly recomend her for hispnic families. 

Ms. Rekik is an outstanding clinician, and extremely knowledgeable in her field. I have worked with her at Howard University international office. She was punctual, hardworking, and very cooperative. I am very proud that she is pursuing her career as a bilingual speech-language pathologist. We will love to have her back to Howard University as a doctoral student. 

I have had Ms. Rekik as a speech therapist to treat adults with language impairments, cultural adaptation deficits, ADHD and speech disorders. She has demonstrated great professionalism, passion and care towards the clients and the team.
