Angiogram (Angiography)

Angiography is the use of x-rays to examine blood vessels, especially in order to identify any blocked or misshapen vessels that may cause problems. The test itself is called an angiogram. Some of the disorders that angiograms can be used to diagnose include:

  • Blockages and narrowing
  • Weakened walls and bulging, called an aneurysm
  • Malformations and misshapen blood vessels
  • Kidney artery conditions
  • Aorta artery conditions
  • Vein problems, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and blood clots or embolisms

During an angiogram, the doctor inserts a very thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a blood vessel through an opening in the groin or arm. The catheter is threaded through the body to the site of the suspected problem, where a small amount of dye is injected into the bloodstream and x-rays are taken. The dye makes the surrounding blood vessels visible via x-ray.

If necessary, certain procedures can be performed after an angiogram while the catheter is in place. Angioplasty is the use of a catheter to widen narrowed or blocked arteries. Stents are like tiny coiled springs that hold blood vessels open, and they can be placed during a catheterization. Damaged heart valves can also be repaired or replaced.

A typical angiogram takes about an hour to perform, but it may be longer if the catheterization is used to perform procedures on the blood vessels. It may be uncomfortable at times but is usually not painful. Afterwards, patients may be monitored for up to six hours to make sure any bleeding from the insertion site has stopped. They are given fluids to help flush the dye from their body. For a day or two after an angiogram it is important for patients to drink plenty of fluids and keep strenuous activity to a minimum.

Angioplasty

Angioplasty is a common, minimally invasive procedure performed to restore blood flow in arteries and veins that have become narrowed or blocked. Age or illness can cause plaque to build up at certain spots within the veins and arteries, and if enough collects, it can restrict the flow of blood. Angioplasty uses a tiny balloon at the end of a small, flexible tube to inflate within the narrowed section and open it up again.

Angioplasty may be performed in several different areas of the body and for a variety of reasons, most often:

  • Peripheral arterial disease, which reduces blood flow in the arms or legs
  • Atherosclerosis, or general hardening of the arteries
  • Carotid artery stenosis, or narrowing of the arteries in the neck that supply the brain
  • Coronary artery disease, or narrowing of the arteries near the heart
  • Renal vascular hypertension, or narrowing of the arteries in the kidney, leading to increased blood pressure

During angioplasty, a patient is given a sedative while lying on a table under an x-ray machine. A catheter (a thin, flexible, and hollow tube) is inserted into the patient's skin in the arm or groin and guided into the blocked artery. Dye is injected via the catheter, and x-rays are used to position the tip of the catheter exactly at the blockage. The tiny balloon is guided through the catheter and inflated with saline. It pushes the plaque out of the way, squishing it against the walls of the artery. The balloon may be inflated and deflated several times to let blood pass by. A stent, a tiny tube of metal mesh like a spring, may be inserted to help keep the artery open. Then the x-ray is used again to check that blood is flowing properly, the catheter is removed, and the tiny incision is bandaged.

There are no nerves within veins and arteries, so an angioplasty is generally not painful. However, there may be some discomfort at the site of the incision and when the balloon is inflated. Overall, angioplasty is a very effective and low-risk procedure, useful for helping patients avoid more difficult bypass surgery.

Lung Issues

Every cell in the body requires oxygen to function and produces carbon dioxide as a waste product. In order to keep the body's tissues constantly supplied with fresh oxygen and to keep waste from building up, the lungs pump air in and out, even while sleeping or unaware. Unfortunately, diseases and disorders affecting the lungs are some of the most common medical problems afflicting people around the world. Some of the most common lung problems include asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and lung cancer.

Asthma is a chronic disease where swollen, inflamed airways make it hard to breathe. It is often brought on by specific triggers. While asthma is a common condition, affecting millions of people, it can also be serious and even fatal in severe cases. Treatment involves avoiding triggers and using inhaled corticosteroid medications.

COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is the name given to two illnesses that both cause difficulty breathing: emphysema and chronic bronchitis. In emphysema, the air sacs of the lungs become damaged, while with bronchitis they become clogged with mucus. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. It is almost always caused by breathing irritants into the lungs, such as smoking or heavy pollution.

Pneumonia is a lung infection that can be caused by bacteria, a virus, or fungi. Most healthy people recover from pneumonia in a week or two, but for some people pneumonia can be fatal. There are treatments available for pneumonia, but the best treatment is to prevent getting sick in the first place. People who are at risk should make sure they get a flu shot every year. There is also a vaccine available for the type of bacteria that causes pneumonia.

Lung cancer occurs when abnormal cells inside the lung grow into a tumor, destroying healthy tissue. Because it is so difficult to detect lung cancer in early stages when it has few symptoms, it is the deadliest form of cancer, responsible for the most cancer deaths both in the U.S. and worldwide. Most lung cancer is caused by exposure to tobacco smoke, but between 10-15% of cases are not linked to smoking.

Some problems with the lungs are minor and are not cause for concern. However if symptoms have lasted for a month or more, even if they are minor, it is worth checking with a healthcare professional. A cough, shortness of breath, or excess mucus production that lingers for weeks are all worth getting looked at.

I had a condition called: ARTERIAL THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROM , Dr, Bavare said that the only option i had was getting a surgery where they cut off my 1st rib , the rib on the very top, I made the biggest mistake of my life when i agreed to take the surgery, When i woke up from the surgery I could not breath because a PNEUMOTHORAX  thanks to a big mistake they did, in the surgery when they cut the rib off they have to round the sharp point of the rib to prevent a puncture to the lung, but i think they didn't  do it because my lung was punctured by the sharp point of the rib anyway and caused a PNEUMOTHORAX,  I was suffering when i could not breath and i heard when they were telling my wife that she needs to sign some paperwork if she want them to fix me up (from a big mistake that they did), at that moment i felt worse because they were forcing her to sign but they did not know i was awake and i heard everything, it was a horrible time  because i could not speak loud and i was saying ...  "I CANT BREATH " while they were talking,  finally my wife signed the docs. and in few minutes an other doctor came and inserted a pig tail tube in my upper chest and i screamed very loud because i felt like someone was inserted a knife on my chest , Now i have to do to work with pain 24/7, I know they made damage to my BRACHIAL PLEXUS.  
CONSECUENCES AFTER SURGERY:
_punctured lung

- brachial plexus injury (paint when i touch my plexus area)

_they are responsible for PNEUMOTHORAX, INSERTION OF PIG TAIL ON MY UPPER CHEST WITHOUT ANESTHESY AND WHEN THEY REMOVED THE PIG TAIL TUBE, SAME PAIN

_they forced my wife to sign documents if she want them to fix me up from the lung puncture that they caused

_ Living with pain every day and they did not know that removing the rib it was going to cause other problems
I had an other surgery and the results were a shame as well.
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE METHODIST HOSPITAL IN THE MEDICAL CENTER IN HOUSTON BECAUSE THEY JUST CARE ABOUT THE PAYMENT FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
