Dr. Brian Edward Black, MD

My family will be forever grateful to Dr Brian Black . He did surgery on my 3 year old son. 2 months later he is fully recovered, without him and his amazing team i dont know where my son could be. He had an accident with a glass bottle and he cut a few foot tendons, a nerve damaged and other things. From the first time we met the doctor we were impressed with his knowledge, excellent bedside manner, compassion, answered all of our questions. The follow up, all the decisions he took, everything was so smooth. Surgery was a success! Our son is very lucky to have had Dr Black. I have no words to express my gratitude. 

Finding and then choosing Dr. Brian Black for our family was one of the best - if not THE best - decision I have ever made. I went to him with my then 15-month-old daughter for a second opinion on a Sprengel's deformity, as the diagnosis did not sit well with me. Dr. Black popped up an X-ray taken four months earlier when the diagnosis was made, ordered new X-rays and told me what he saw: Cervical and thoracic congenital scoliosis with hemivertebra, and my daughter was scheduled for surgery at the first opportunity. We had to see five specialists in two weeks, which Dr. Black's team helped set up. At the same time, Dr. Black said he supports second opinions and suggested, if we wanted, the head of pediatrics at Children's Hospital; we kept the appointments Dr. Black's team scheduled and did have the second opinion. We didn't need it. Dr. Black is the best around. My daughter, Charlotte, has seen him every year - sometimes twice a year - since. When Charlotte was 7 and scheduled for a second surgery, a tumor was discovered in her spinal cord during the pre-surgery MRI. Dr. Black and his team were wonderful throughout - coordinating with the pediatric neuorsurgeon to ensure Charlotte's tumor excision would be the best possible and he could perform his surgery while still allowing access to the tumor site if needed in the future. That six months was quite chaotic, and he was there with us. In May of this year, Charlotte was released from treatment following a fourth surgery four years ago, and she also graduated from his care. She is now 20 years old, and doing great! With Dr. Black's treatments, she has participated in sports, extracurricular activities school and community events. Dr. Black has been such a significant part of her (our) life. He is straight-forward, tells it like it is, is sympathetic, caring, and SO skilled. He provided resources, Kleenex, a comforting and compassionate bedside manner, and always looks out for his patient's best interest while helping parents and family member understand and accept what needs to happen. His team also is second to none. We will miss him more than we can say, but wish him all the best: He is the best. What else is there to say?
