Looks like there hasn't been a review written on Dr. Johnson since 2015 and he is definitely due for one. TLDR: Root Canal was fine, horrible bedside manner, and was not gentle at all, I felt like an inconvenience. So I just moved to Dallas and needed a root canal and Dr Johnson showed up as close to me and in network. I've had root canals before and I know the drill. They have a bad reputation, but if done with care, the experience isn't too bad. I showed up the morning of and Dr. Johnson didn't even introduce himself, he just told me to sit down rudely. Like I said, I've had root canals before and know the drill. I explained to Dr. Johnson that I have a condition that causes me to have resistance to local anesthesia and normally I need two rounds to be completely numb. He just said, "I'll do the best I can." Again, with a rude tone. I also asked for nitrous oxide because I get very nervous. He berated me and said I had to tell them beforehand because they didn't have the supplies to do that. Weird to me, I've never had to do that before with different doctors. But whatever, I'll push through. He started the anesthesia injections, jabbing me very aggressively, never asking if I was ok, it hurt so bad that I had tears streaming down my face. I have a high pain tolerance and have never had this experience before, it should not hurt like that. He began the procedure and I could still feel it all, but I was too scared to tell him since he didn't seem to care that I have a resistance to local anesthesia. He kept aggressively telling me to quit moving, but I was flinching from the pain. He sat me up and told me we were taking a break, so I checked my work phone because I was getting messages. He then yelled at me telling me this was not the time to be on my phone. Uh, ok. He finished, took the x-ray, didn't ask how I was feeling, and didn't tell me what to do for pain management (Tylenol, etc). He was rude to his assistant the whole time, talking down to her. I felt bad for her but she stayed professional and was kind. I'm giving the overall experience 2 stars only because my dentist said the root canal itself was good. And the staff (reception, aid) were very nice. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but it seemed to me like Dr. Johnson doesn't appreciate his staff, doesn't care about his patients ' comfort, and views everything as an inconvenience and beneath him. If you just need a cheap(ish) root canal, he's fine. But if you have anxiety and care about the overall experience, don't go to him.
